Re: Sovereign debt question on 'yields'
Here is my possible explanation in layman terms.
Greece is technically bankrupt at the moment. The market is anticipating a default in the capital repayment for the bond which expires in 2 years. So everyone is selling short dated bonds thus driving yields higher.
In 15 years time, do you think greece will remain a bankrupt? They probably have improved their financial status.

Do governments intend to repay their debt obligations?

The chink in the armour here is that you assume governments intend to repay their debt obligations.
Maybe not hyperinflation but inflation certainly.

Oh god, a conspiracy theorist.
Look, I'll spell it out for you. The big banks are NOT selling gold to "artificially depress the market". They are NOT "short gold". The Fed is the world's biggest owner of gold; they have no reason to want the price lower either. I could link here to an excellent piece on the hyperinflation myth by Cullen Roche but I don't think you'd read it because it doesn't support your wacky conspiracy theory. So here's the scoop.

Debt in itself is not necessarily evil; it is a integral component of the economy and financing.
It's just like a credit card. Use it responsibly and it can be a useful tool. Abuse it like the Euro-PIGS and you get Greece. Perhaps for politicians there, they got tempted to use credit as a political tool. Everyone want to look generous!

"communism failed" is true insofar as the communist revolutionaries were in the first place corrupt insofar as they had neither the ability nor the moral conviction to sustain nor mandate for their proposal of extreme equality: most were dictators wannabes using glib language and saccharine promise that they failed to fulfill without the organisation of capitalist productivity. But China (a self proclaimed communist country) is now outwitting the US in its own Capitalist economy by also endorsing capitalist productivity, although I do think that both Chinese and American economies would eventually breakdown (as predicted by Marx) due to Capitalist interest hijacking democratic right, resulting in an economy characterized by spiritual sterility and gross social inequality.

Re: Banks should be careful when granting credit to these greedy old Singaporeans.
If banks like maybank doesnt want the business of people like Mr koh, then he shld take his business elsewhere and the bank doesnt deserve his custom. It will be the bank's loss.
Not everyone who uses a credit card is going to max out his card limit and run into debts. Retired seniors can be, and I believe are mostly responsible people who are probably more savvy than the younger set.

The problem with GIC and Temasek is that they are run by politicians who are misfits in the financial world because of their mindset. First thing politicians do is to push the blame away. Second thing is that they hide everything good or bad. In investment, objectivity is key. If you make a mistake, it is ok since there are risks involved in any investment. We must not hide the mistake and therefore take no action in case we are found out. |

Does SG Govt waste public time, money on dirty tricks trying sullying the name of opposition MPs?
Statutory boards attempt land grab at opposition constituencies [link][STpict] to dispossess opposition MP run town councils of properties.
Waste public monies and parliamentary time on fragmented, inefficient or even absent ground maintenance programmes and the resultant agitation of opposition parliamentarians to complain due to PAP conspiracies to sully the reputation of opposition run town councils (through the deliberate absence of ground ownership demarcations through the deliberate grab and then neglect of land in opposition constituencies).

Since when buy/ sell property must pay GST?
B.C. thinks that very soon, those who want to withdraw their bank monies/ CPF/ claim insurance monies would soon have to pay GST on the amount claimed/ withdrawn.
It seems that SG govt intends to impose GST tax on 'capital' from now on?

Ministers are rewarded with bonuses for 'performing well', shouldn't MediShield holders too, be rewarded for staying fit and well (i.e. not making any insurance claims during a specified period)?
e.g. max 50% rebate for the duration that NO CLAIM against medishield is made- to encourage persons to Either: stay fit and healthy OR buy alternative insurance policies so as NOT to claim against MediShield, (or BOTH).

In an orderly country, pedestrians keep left so that cyclist(s) can overtake right.
But cyclist should of course tinkle their bell when they overtake from behind.
SG govt wants to boost 'efficiency', perhaps the best way forward is for pedestrians and cyclists to share footpaths in an organized and systematic manner.
Likewise for road use, slowest vehicles usually keep to the left [all in the context of a Right hand drive country (Commonwealth) I mean].

Re: [Counting agent me]: A conundrum of spoilt votes
Re: [Counting agent me]
One way out of this conundrum is perhaps for a pile of 'uncertain votes' (2 way contest) to be separated into a fourth pile: the first 3 being: one pile each for each party, 1 pile for obviously spoilt votes (blank sheets, major illegible scribblings across page, has the word 'SPOILT-VOTE' written by voter on it). The former 3 categories should be easily determined by the vote counters themselves- the counting agents (from each party) having the right perhaps to single out votes sorted that they don't agree with into the 4th pile- 'ambiguous' (via the table chief of course).
