Ministers are rewarded with bonuses for 'performing well', shouldn't MediShield holders too, be rewarded for staying fit and well (i.e. not making any insurance claims during a specified period)?
e.g. max 50% rebate for the duration that NO CLAIM against medishield is made- to encourage persons to Either: stay fit and healthy OR buy alternative insurance policies so as NOT to claim against MediShield, (or BOTH). Also, along the same line, surely a "first class" govt wouldn't leave the elderly in a lurch ("UN-insurable") the moment they turn 85yrs old?
- (like wise Mr Leong QH suggests, this discount can like car insurance, grow 10% each year until max 50%- but shall be reduced to zero % discount the moment any claim is made~ {just my off cuff thought})

My point
MediShield burden: 'I suggest a feature similar to the no-claims discount in motor insurance.'
MR LEONG QUEE HIAN: 'I signed up for MediShield when it was launched but in April this year, the Central Provident Fund Board informed me that my insurance cover had expired at the end of March when I reached the age limit of 85 years. I was very disappointed as I had paid thousand of dollars in premiums over the years. It would be better to have no age limit for people under the scheme. I also suggest a feature similar to the no-claims discount in motor insurance, with a 50 per cent rebate in MediShield premium for not making a health claim in five years. This would make the premium more affordable. The current premium of $1,123 a year is rather high for elderly retirees.'

PS: This post is mentioned in:
- [Sharon Peh (Ms)] 'No cover when you need it most' :"It is an anomaly that after paying the required premiums until 84, the insurance suddenly ceases coverage upon one reaching the age of 85, when one would need it most. We pay for MediShield to cover ourselves should we fall sick. The possibility of one falling ill after 85 is higher but ironically, the cover lapses. .. Elderly patients above 85 years will definitely be under greater stress knowing that every cent (if any) they had painstakingly saved over the years may be insufficient to meet hefty hospital bills without the MediShield cover."
