Me thinks that this is the best solution to balance healthcare costs for elderlies with the stratospheric property prices in Singapore. Singaporeans, led by Mah Bow Tan, have been worshiping the god of high property prices for far too long, so why not ask this god for some dividends in return rather than starting a medishield ponzi scheme that ask the young (with enough problems affording proper housing) to sponsor medical bills for rich elderlies?

Re thread: ' One-off public transport voucher 'worth too little'' Applying for it a hassle, so poor go elsewhere for aid, say MPs, help agencies http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking...ittle-20131115 The lukewarm response to the one-off vouchers that are meant to help the poor cope with fare hikes could be due to the amount offered and hassle in applying for them, MPs and help agencies told The Straits Times. In Parliament on Monday, it was revealed that just over half of the 200,000 public transport vouchers available for needy residents to offset the fare increase in 2011 were taken up. |

Why the contract invented by the principal is indeed an embarrassing joke.

(Thread source: Mr Heng should not have intervened in bal girl Integrity issue)
This is evidence that the 2 kids did this in retaliation and rebellion. This is why I say Minister Heng should have thought through deeper before he came out to censor the principal.
The message he sends with his words is that it is Ok to question authority and not to keep promises.
The 2 rebellious girls and their parents are now gloating at their glory of over throwing the principal and getting their way. They made use of the media, publicity and even the authorities to get their way. hahahahaha

Just to tell you why the contract by the principal is indeed an embarrassing joke.

Botakgate, how one principal can live on
"School principal Marion Tan has said that if the girls were allowed
to go bald, others might take advantage. 'Can you imagine if I were to
say 'yes', I'd have everybody come to school with a bald head,' she told
The Straits Times" ['Why make bald stand a hairy issue?'(TNP, 06Aug2013)]

The circumstances upon which selective GST exemption/ reduction ought to be shunned.
Quote:
Re thread: [Utility tax] Is tax on tax equitable?
I agree with BicCherry that GST is collected once and not multiple times. The total cost to consumer is 7% as of now. However "Tax on Tax" is not uncommon. There are many such examples in Singapore and it happens in other countries as well. |
Anyhow, as I'd previously mentioned, and using the photo of a Utility bill (Aug2012) as example, the final effect of the 30% water conservation tax (WCT) plus GST(7%) is a final WCT payable of 32.1% (i.e. 30% X 1.07= 32.1%). So there is no difference whether the 32.1% is derived as 32.1% (GST zero rated) or as 30% plus another 2.1% (GST) added- conceptually different but nominally the same amount payable eventually. A bit of mathematical acrobatics- that's all.

S$120 p.m. FDWG biased and unfair.
S$120 p.m. Foreign Domestic Worker Grant (FDWG) is biased and unfair.
- Those who qualify but do not hire a FDW due reasons such as: no space
for FDW (FDW needs to live-in), cannot afford FDW, elderly is taken care
of by 'unemployed' Singaporean child/ relative etc should be allocated
the SAME funding to be placed into the elderly person's medisave
account/ elder expense account that can be later spent on elderly care
issues (monthly limit) such as nursing home care, dietary supplements,
pampers, part-time/ professional help (licensed), medical appliances,
taxi journeys involving the elderly to public health care institutions
etc or used as a supplement to the regular use of medisave funds.

Cat feeders: feeding the public cat or stray rats?
I think that anyone who abandons cat food or leaves cat food unattended should be fined half that of casual littering (1st offense) since what isn't eaten by cats would end up eaten by rats, resulting in higher costs to clean up the rat problem- glue traps et al.

Did TTSH stint on staff deployment?
Quote:
Topic: TTSH: Patient fell off the bed for his own good. Morals of the reply: 1. In any hospital here, complaints are always refuted. They are always right. You have signed the indemnity form before admission. You life in our hands. Patients not like customers. You pay and we lord over you. |
SG healthcare: in all instances, there is no difference in medical care of the patient

Topic: TTSH: Patient fell off the bed for his own good. Then stay in those ward when there are more nurse than patient. Of course the charges are higher. In cheaper ward, patient may need to wait as nurses maybe busy with another patient. Some proceedire requires 2 or more nurses. |

MediShield burden: Add no-claims discounts and Remove age limits.
Ministers are rewarded with bonuses for 'performing well', shouldn't MediShield holders too, be rewarded for staying fit and well (i.e. not making any insurance claims during a specified period)?
e.g. max 50% rebate for the duration that NO CLAIM against medishield is made- to encourage persons to Either: stay fit and healthy OR buy alternative insurance policies so as NOT to claim against MediShield, (or BOTH).
