PLEASE call the counselor ASAP.

required a loan of 5k
i had lost this sum of money through gambling. previously owed my parents about 10k and under pressured to repay the debts so i gave a try again. the "want to kill back" attitude has gotten me into deep trouble. and i would not want to strain the relationship with them even further. i required a loan to be paid over 3 years. any kind soul with help or advice/counseling would be appreciated.
Just an off cuff reply.

Me thinks that the cause of your problem is deeper then the $10k tt U first owed your family but perhaps a systemic problem arising from a lack of proper spiritual upbringing which would have allowed you to understand that gambling can NEVER be a legitimate source of income. What you gain through gambling is always another person's loss (there can be only one winner of the sum of $$$ on the table)> you loose your humanity by participating in a such a predatory zero sum game where, whilst there might temporarily be one winner, all parties are eventual losers when the cancer of the gambling bug finally overcomes its victim.

There is but one love in the game of gambling> the love for money and more of it. There is no kinship, friendship, no trust, no relationship with one's fellow man but for the love of money; life is more than just cold hard cash.
By worshiping money, one has willfully put Mammon [wiki] on the pedestal: a cardinal sin, at least where Christianity is concerned. By worshiping money, one always puts secondary the value of one's relationship with one's loved ones.

Yes your relationship is strained. But it was strained because you gambled. More gambling can only put further strain and if this relationship is of any value to you, then you should accept that easy money can NEVER be a permanent solution.

Forget the loan; your first step should be to call a counselor (1800-666-8668).
I second the suggestion by 'Shiny Things' that you call a counselor and a government provided one might be most immediately affordable in my opinion; you might also seek the advice of your own religious counselor, whatever your religion might be, for deeper advice or even a second opinion.

With the exception of Ah Longs who might employ you for $5k but get you into even deeper trouble (jail & caning for loan sharking activities), I sincerely doubt that any other forum users would be so folly as to agree to loan you $5k as you have an admitted history of previously losing $10K of your parents $ gambling: [read: BAD credit record].

But all is not lost, my best suggestion thus far would be that you seek the advise of the government counselor (or your own religious teacher) for a clearer picture of your current situation and how best to move forward.

All the best for your endeavors but I don't gamble, and I don't have $5k lying around somewhere that I can so conveniently lend to you. Gambling is only legitimate if it is done with spare cash with no other use and there are consequences for profligacy and the pushing of your limits too far.

"Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love."
~ 1 John 4:8 (New International Version).

Rgds and God bless,
