Ball is at foot of YSL I think.

Topic:Expulsion of Yaw Shin Leong from Party Membership
Short story why they took this action:
Yaw brought embarrassment to the party and most importantly, is a political liability because of the bad press. Hence, he must go or else next GE, how? That is likely how WP is thinking. So, they expelled him.

Accountability? Transparency? This is likely to have taken more of a backseat to the above in terms of the importance.
Way I see it is that adultery is not okay, but perhaps it isn't so bad if U can admit your mistake and ask for forgiveness or even leave the position independently as self punishment etc (come back again at later date) (see e.g. of Jack Neo below, only thing JN is an actor/ show producer). But it seems that YSL just stone walled even his own party, putting Hougang MP Emeritus in a difficult position to continue covering up for his misdeeds as further allegations surfaced.

So unable to contact YSL through the both usual and 'extraordinary' means for the purpose of clarification, WP took the most drastic step that they could: to expel YSL which by Singapore Elections Law- consequences vacation of YSL's MP position.

Just the way I see it, only thing I think the WP could be more transparent- warning YSL that coming clean was necessary and that just resigning fr the CEC treasurer post wouldn't do quite enough.

That said, the by-election shouldn't be so soon until YSL has dismissed. exhausted his opportunity to appeal against the expulsion fr WP through the appeal process as provided for in the WP Constitution- wherein-which such reinstatement should allow him to continue his position as Hougang MP- guess the ball is now at the foot of YSL now.
