I have never advocated an over-sized bureaucracy.

Discuss thread: Property in Singapore taxed less than food and water...why?

Taxation and redistribution of wealth (Government) has nothing to to with "Capitalism". You can have commumist, democratic, Feudalistic Goverment.
We are discussing about how deep we want our Government to dig into our pockets. (Taxation)
Or how deep we want to dig into 'Rich' people pockets and give to 'Poor' people. (redistribution of wealth)
Taxation and redistribution of wealth is what all Government around the world do.
The difference is how big Government can get.
The more tax we give, the bigger Government gets.
The Government will use the tax-dollars to create new departments, new regulations, new Courtesy Campaign [link]
We get bigger Government when we demand for Government to do stuff, give us stuff, new departments needs to be created to do stuff for us.
Hi Mr Wallacetan, just to clarify, my property tax harmonization suggestion which whilst is estimated to increase government revenues is made with the CAVEAT that the increase in property tax based revenue collected be returned to all Singaporeans at an equal share (qualifying PRs can get half) and termed a property tax refund/ dividend but which is a veiled asset reallocation procedure in compensation for the widening income disparity in Singapore: 'FT policy may have helped widen income gap: panel' [Yahoo-news, 17Jan2012]. Any further increase in GST should have refunds made in this exact same manner which I estimate will be significantly beneficial to a vast majority in society in so far that high earners/ tourist seek to spend/ consume more than lower income earners; the PAP I think will be more than eager to disclose what the optimal rate of GST should be- the greater the discrepancy, the greater everyone CPF savings will be.

According to concept, these rebates will first accrue towards paying the ppty tax within which residence the holder is domiciled in followed by the usual GST rebate component receivable in cash, the rest being placed in various CPF accounts with-drawable according to specification for education, joblessness subsidy/ various other self improvement activities/ healthcare at respective annual limits approved by CPF. The use of rebates for payment of property tax after their addition into CPF however, will NOT be approved.

The ease at which property taxes can now be assessed and the excess revenue re-distributed (in equal shares) according to current channels is in fact expected to cut down workload of the IRAS (no more need to determine and verify owner occupancy status and prosecution of the rare few who are ever charged) is expected to slim down the bureaucracy.

The added contributions to every Singaporean's CPF will relieve the government of budgeting headaches for Singaporeans old age and so make the PM less liable to demand a salary increase. More young Singaporeans will be attracted to politics as policy transparency increases and a boosted CPF makes the problem of old age Singaporeans less daunting than it currently is- leading to better political debate and an efficient bureaucracy.

My 4th post in this thread of mine is appended to show that I have never advised that any tax revenue increase should be used to feed a bloated bureaucracy with the word 'equal' in red added to emphasize my point; the maths involved in redistribution should be one any Pr6 student can do.

Transparent consumption (property) taxes with equal rebates to all- a way forward towards a modern, compassionate and productive society....
Just a curiosity, have U yet considered starting your own TEA party in locally and cool down all the ACTION that there is in parliament currently?
