A bribe can buy you the status of being number one.

Thread topic: Is it possible for singapore to reinvent its future?
I don't think Singapore will become the greatest tourist attraction in near future. Look at China, Malaysia...etc.
Singapore almost became a parrot in almost everything quick fixes like casinos...etc. Tourists come and stay only for two or three days to tour around, that's it!
Another thing is, if foreign labourers/talents decide to stop coming here to work, then it is doomed for singapore.
Simply put: there is a dearth of integrity and innovation in SG, mirroring that of its god-father: the USA.
I kinda believe that the modern world (civilization) as we know it will eventually 'end' due to environmental stresses and nuclear technology gone awry- a current lack of integrity in the US financial system will cause a power vacuum that might slide to dictatorship: US can only survive this $$$ meltdown with military intervention for instance, and China is politically too young (unstable) to lead (still mostly dictatorial communist state in practice, with many rural neglected poor)- carbon emissions causing sea levels to rise resulting in decreased land mass for farming (and other catastrophe) resulting in widespread environmental refugees, all this in the midst of fuel oil price crisis due to either scarcity or else M.East war/ social unrest. Nuclear is a problem as Fukushima has shown and its propensity to be abused by terrorists (read: Dirty bomb), cancers from growth chemicals in meat and other food production.

USA, waylaid by the sly temptations and distractions of capitalism- of easy life on fatty food and cheap alcohol- grown arrogant about their military and technological capabilities that they have even ditched sound economic principles. One could say that so conceited were they about capitalism: that they let capitalism run wild in their economy- believing that under capitalism- everyday would be sunny and bright... but they are wrong. Capitalism, like fire, is a good slave but a bad master. Allowing corporate lobby groups to sponsor political campaigns, half baked Keynesian theories such as spending money to create jobs whilst turning a blind eye on the corporate zoo (read Madoff; sub-prime crisis) and other crimes in the international arena (read CIA manipulating foreign governments for US commercial interest- e.g. the perpetration (i.e. funding) as well as arbitrary intervention in various international scenarios of human rights abuses) have weakened the US govt as the cost of 'War on terrorism' and other "anti-terrorist" measures now take its painful toll on the US society.

Whilst I believe the founding fathers of the USA to have been pious theists if not Christians, many Americans and Europeans today seem to have ditched the theology of their forefathers- assuming (mistakenly) that science has ALL the answers and so proclaiming themselves supreme (second to Mr Policeman I suppose). I have, unfortunately not come across any scientific study to date that can prove that a person's soul does not exist.

Without a sound footing in the theology of one's own religion (self-declared atheist/ half-baked theists), how can the US contribute meaningfully to any form of world peace, progress and prosperity- especially in a world where increased religiosity is certainly a growing trend, at least in growing economies at least (Mao Zedong's China banned religion then- and so does N Korea now). What new trick does the US still have left in its hat to entertain us now that their Bible has been tossed out of the window?- Nuclear Armageddon again?- I thought that was yesterday.

It is hard to convince the world of one's scholarship when one advocates that monkeys were our common ancestor- no wonder the US has long resorted to ('stealing') cheap oil through oppression of Arabian peoples by bribing dictators with arms in exchange for 'privileged' access to Arabian oil... resulting in a groundswell of hatred by the people of Arabia against BOTH their leaders particular AND the US government in general- it's not too late perhaps, to go environmental to relieve some of the tension formed. Mubarak down, Gaddafi dead... will Obama the next one down?

Casinos, F1, cigars, luxuries of every make and form- few citizens in the US and Singapore have them all.

Still, many a life is cut short by the overindulgence in wine woman and song.

A bribe can buy you the status of being number one.

PS: the presence of foreigners (talent) in Singapore only represents relatively 'good' policies of yesteryear- but like all standard financial advice, trends in past profit is NOT reflective of future gains. You just have to open your eyes and contribute to the total good I guess.

Fortunately in America, some citizens have smelled a rat in some of Obama's socialist schemes with an authoritarian/ dictatorial bent and have started a 'new' republican party off shoot called the 'TEA-party' based upon the acronym: "Taxed Enough Already". I guess, other than being tired of high taxes, these folks just don't agree with Obama's taxation and expenses policies...
The documentary is still showing on CNA [pict] and perhaps in the foot steps of the USA, Mr Tharman has since advised that taxed in Singapore shall be raised in 5 years time [pict]. A booming economy or hyperinflation like that in Zimbabwe [link] in the making, only time will tell.
Adieu.
