Re: ST: Nearest school in different GRC, so volunteer work not recognised
'Without some assurance of a good chance of winning at least their first election, many able and successful young Singaporeans may not risk their careers to join politics,' Mr Goh said at an event marking the appointment of members to the South East Community Development Council (CDC).(Source: yax-615 Goh Chok Tong admits that GRCs are meant to skew )

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 03, 2008 Workers' Party mass cycling at East Coast Park cannot, PAP carnival at West Coast Park can So are political parties holding outdoor events dangerous? Well it depends on what party you belong to, it seems. If you were an Opposition party trying organise a mass cycling event at East Coast Park to celebrate your 50th anniversary, the Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs, Prof Ho Peng Kee will reject it because political parties are not allowed to use public places to promote their cause. And also because of public safety. Prof Ho said to WP's Low Thia Khiang, "You may be well-behaving, but there may be other people whom you come across when you cycle who may stop you, may want to debate with you and that may attract a crowd, and therefore will result in problems the police want to avoid." But if you are the ruling party organising a carnival at West Coast Park, you are totally no danger to the public. In fact, you are a delight to the spectators. |
Poor station design results in grand waterfall outside MRT train doorway.

West moving train (trains travel/ pass on left), probably Tanah Merah station (flashing bedok station after doors close), waterfall over entire doorway of last cabin: shows station roof is probably too short and giving MRT riders a drenching experience...

Query on tax relief for foreigners
I HEARD from a foreigner working here that he can claim qualifying child relief or handicapped child relief even though his children are not Singaporeans or Singapore permanent residents, and are not even staying here.
I was baffled as I thought the tax relief was only for children in Singapore.
If a foreigner can claim relief of $4,000 for each child not staying in Singapore, shouldn't a Singaporean be able to claim more, since his children are living here and expenses would be incurred in bringing them up here?

Youth seeking ?'unlicensed' donations assault man who question their authority.
Perhaps like in Greece and many other European countries where spending on effective education is low (due to debt crisis), Singaporean youth also have not developed deep purpose in life and would rather participate in illegal get rich quick schemes (illegal fund raising with high commission/90% commission like illegal / porn VCD selling).

[Healthcare] Joo Chiat residents urgently need a reverse mortgage finance facility.
Me thinks that this is the best solution to balance healthcare costs for elderlies with the stratospheric property prices in Singapore. Singaporeans, led by Mah Bow Tan, have been worshiping the god of high property prices for far too long, so why not ask this god for some dividends in return rather than starting a medishield ponzi scheme that ask the young (with enough problems affording proper housing) to sponsor medical bills for rich elderlies?

Re thread: ' One-off public transport voucher 'worth too little'' Applying for it a hassle, so poor go elsewhere for aid, say MPs, help agencies http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking...ittle-20131115 The lukewarm response to the one-off vouchers that are meant to help the poor cope with fare hikes could be due to the amount offered and hassle in applying for them, MPs and help agencies told The Straits Times. In Parliament on Monday, it was revealed that just over half of the 200,000 public transport vouchers available for needy residents to offset the fare increase in 2011 were taken up. |
IMF tells Singapore government to steal less money from ordinary citizens.
Basics:
- Every country govt prints money, its just a matter of more or less. All things being equal (productivity and consumption of each country being balanced, exchange rates should be constant if ALL countries print $$$ at the same rate.
- Though not commonly mentioned, such printing of $$$ is actually some form oftheft since more circulating dollars means less buying power per dollar- an erosion of the hard earned savings of the average man.
- Chief printers of $$$ in this world are USA, China and Japan, everyone follows, that is why the M1 money supply (and other wider measures of $ (M2, M3 etc) is increasing annually too).

The Straits Times, Published on Nov 07, 2013 My Point Termination fee not stated I WAS recently told by M1 that even though I had completed my 24-month home broadband contract, I would still need to pay a termination fee if I wanted to end the service. Why was the termination fee not made clear in the contract or on M1's website? Can the telco or the Infocomm Development Authority explain why there is a need for such a fee? Why the contract invented by the principal is indeed an embarrassing joke.
(Thread source: Mr Heng should not have intervened in bal girl Integrity issue)
This is evidence that the 2 kids did this in retaliation and rebellion. This is why I say Minister Heng should have thought through deeper before he came out to censor the principal.
The message he sends with his words is that it is Ok to question authority and not to keep promises.
The 2 rebellious girls and their parents are now gloating at their glory of over throwing the principal and getting their way. They made use of the media, publicity and even the authorities to get their way. hahahahaha

to go bald, others might take advantage. 'Can you imagine if I were to
say 'yes', I'd have everybody come to school with a bald head,' she told
The Straits Times" ['Why make bald stand a hairy issue?'(TNP, 06Aug2013)]
